What is Malignant Mesothelioma?
Protecting Your Future & Rights in Asbestos-Related Mesothelioma Cases
There are multiple forms of mesothelioma. The most common form of this condition – and the one most commonly associated with asbestos-related mesothelioma lawsuits – is known as malignant mesothelioma. This condition is typically caused by exposure to asbestos, a naturally occurring fibrous mineral. Malignant mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that has no cure.
There are three forms of malignant mesothelioma:
These forms of the same disease are differentiated based on the location of the cancer. Pleural mesothelioma occurs in the lungs. Pericardial mesothelioma is found in the pericardium section of the heart. Peritoneal mesothelioma occurs in the abdominal lining.
Who is at risk of malignant mesothelioma?
Victims of malignant mesothelioma are most often elderly males of around 60 years of age – especially individuals who have worked in industries marked by continuous, long-term asbestos exposure. Unfortunately, asbestos exposure can occur secondhand as well. Wives who have washed their husbands’ contaminated clothes can suffer dangerous levels of exposure.
