Constructed in 1943, the Tooele Army Depot functioned as a storage depot for WWII supplies, ammunition, and combat vehicles.  The role of the Tooele Army Depot (TEAD) has evolved over time and currently serves as a joint ammunition storage site as well as a site for the design and manufacture of ammunition peculiar equipment (APE) for the Department of  Defense.

Utah has long maintained a variety of military sites utilized by the U.S. Army, Air Force and Navy.  Many of these sites are or were located near the Great Salt Lake in Ogden or Tooele.  The Tooele Army Depot (TEAD) was constructed in 1943 to store ammunition and supplies for WWII.  Originally named the Tooele Ordnance Depot, TEAD currently serves as a joint ammunition storage site as well as a site for the design and manufacture of ammunition peculiar equipment (APE) for the Department of  Defense.  At various times throughout its history, TEAD has been involved with other military installations in the region, including the Desert Chemical Depot, the Dugway Proving Ground and the Hill Air Force Base.
