In the late 1960s, Georgia-Pacific acquired the kraft pulp mill in Zachary, LA.  Over the following decades, the paper mill modified and expanded their operations and currently produces consumer products and communication papers.

In operation since 1968, the paper mill is located on the east bank of the Mississippi River near Port Hudson.  Throughout its operation, it has undergone several changes as a result of the dynamic demands of the paper industry.  The mill was expanded in the 1970s and 1980s, and Georgia-Pacific continues to invest millions of dollars on upgrades to the plant’s existing equipment.

One of three Georgia-Pacific mills located in Louisiana, the Port Hudson mill produces  paper towels and bath tissue, and employs hundreds of workers.  As of 2010, 1,000 workers were employed at the mill.
