Built in the late 1940s, the North Salt Lake Refinery, as it is commonly referred, continues to operate in the North Salt Lake area.  Ownership of the facility has changed several times throughout its operation and is currently owned by Big West Oil, a subsidiary of Flying J, Inc.

Producing primarily gasoline and diesel, the North Salt Lake Refinery has been in operation since the late 1940s. Throughout its operation, the facility has been owned by Western States Refining Company (1949-1959), Frontier Oil Refining Company (1959-1967), Husky Oil (1967-1985), Flying J, Inc. (1985-1998) and Big West Oil (1998-present). The facility currently employs roughly 185 workers and has a capacity of 35,000 barrels per day.
