Texaco built the Convent refinery in 1967.  Following mergers and acquisitions, the facility became part of Motiva Enterprises which is a joint venture between affiliates of Shell Oil Company and Saudi Aramco.  Employing well over 1,000 workers, the large facility produces a variety of petroleum products.

The 4,400-acre property on which the refinery is located straddles the Ascension and St. James Parishes and is located near the intersection of Hwy 70 and Hwy 44 in Convent, LA.  Built in 1967 by Texaco, the refinery eventually became the Motiva Convent Refinery.  Motiva Enterprises is a joint venture between affiliates of Shell Oil Company and Saudi Aramco.  Employing over 1,000 workers, including contractors, the facility produces a variety of petroleum products such as gasoline, aviation jet fuel, diesel fuel, propane, and butane.
