Detail

Located in the Houma-Thibodaux area oilfield, McDermott began operating in Morgan City 57 years prior to ceasing operations in 2013.  During the mid-1950s, the shipyard was the oil industry’s first dedicated steel fabrication yard.  The number of workers employed at the shipyard averaged around 1,000 workers, although in the early 2000s, there were as many as 3,500 workers at the Morgan City and Amelia locations owned by McDermott.  In 1999, the new CEO sold off the company’s shipyards to Bollinger Shipyards.  In 2013, McDermott closed any remaining operations in Morgan City and Amelia.
