American Cyanamid’s Fortier Complex

American Cyanamid constructed the plant in the early 1950s on a former plantation owned by the Fortier family.  The complex changed its name to Cytec Industries in 1993 and, later in 2011, was renamed the Cornerstone Chemical Company Fortier Complex.  Products manufactured at the site include acrylonitrile hydrogen cyanide, melamine oleum and sulfuric acid.

In 1952, American Cyanamid began construction of the Waggaman plant on land which had previously been the Fortier Plantation.  Spanning 800 acres and employing approximately 460 workers, the chemical plant, now owned by Cornerstone Chemical Company, manufactures a variety of petrochemicals, including acrylonitrile hydrogen cyanide, melamine oleum and sulfuric acid.
