The Little Gypsy Power Plant was first constructed in the 1960s.  Originally named Louisiana Light & Power, the company changed its name to Entergy in the 1980s.  When first constructed in 1961, the Little Gypsy Power Plant became the first fully-automated generating unit in the world.

Located upriver from New Orleans along the Mississippi River, the Little Gypsy Power Plant became operational in 1961.  Louisiana Power & Light changed its name to officially to Entergy in the 1980s.  The natural gas-fueled power plant was the world’s first fully-automated, fossil-generation plant.
