The pharmaceutical industry is a multi-billion dollar business that manufacturers and markets hundreds of new products every year and spends millions of dollars to convince consumers and doctors that they need the new drugs. Every year, thousands of Americans needlessly die because of those same drugs.
While some harmful drugs are removed from the market after they are proven to be dangerous, the sad truth is that many continue to be marketed and sold even when there has been evidence that serious side effects, even fatalities, result from their use.
Since the early 1990s, when the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) came under strong bipartisan pressure in Washington to "fast-track" and accept more new drugs, the number of dangerous, even deadly, prescription drugs has risen alarmingly. Many drug products have caused such widespread injury that class action suits or mass torts have been filed against them.
There is more room for error in the industry than many people think. The FDA relies heavily on the drug companies own reports about the safety of new products. That’s right - - the same company that wants to sell you and your doctor these drugs is the same source of research and reports for the FDA! Pharmaceutical companies invest enormous amounts of money in research and development giving the companies a huge incentive to bring their new products to the market – creating the potential for disaster.
Following is a list of some dangerous drugs that have been the focus of recent pharmaceutical litigation. If you have taken any of these drugs or any other medications and have experienced harmful side effects, protect yourself and your loved ones by contacting the Nemeroff Law Firm
